Moles are by definition harmless benign pigmented growths. However, if their appearance changes in size, color or feel they need to be checked due to the potential risk of malignancy (melanoma).
When you visit our office in High Point, NC, our board-certified dermatologists will give you a full assessment of the status of your skin. One of the most frequent areas of concern are moles that we notice are:
- Irregular in shape
- Raised
- Changing in size or color
If the dermatologists come across a mole that looks suspicious they take a small sample for testing - it's important to catch skin cancer in its early stages in order to fight it properly. Later, if the results determine that the mole is cancerous or pre-cancerous, our dermatologists will perform a simple, in-office mole removal procedure.
If you have any moles that are worrisome to you, please do not hesitate to contact our offices today for an examination.
